Pedro had already had dogs before, but I never had any.
One day we agreed to bring home an English Cocker,
whom we called "Gómez", but, unfortunately he died at a young age.
Some time after, I purchased all the doggy magazines there were in Spanish
and I absolutely felt in love with the breed and particularly with a dog called"Hobo del Matachin". Shortly after we purchased a red mask male, whose name
was Dante del Matachin and who now lives in Asturias (in northern Spain)
and a female with a black mask, who was called Andra del Matachin
--whom we nicknamed "Trampas"--, and who happened to be a granddaughter
of my very favourite Hobo. Yet we better not speak about this subject...
it is quite a story.
The best past of it is that we met Gema and Tomas, from the Del Matachin Kennel
and under their guidance we got introduced in the DdBdome, we started attending
shows and we soon met other breeders.
While at Gema and Tomas' house, one day, I saw this beautiful 12 months old puppy
whose name was Matachin del Matachin, and after plenty of insistence, they agreed
to sell him to us. He was an exceptional dog and we immediately got started
in dog-showing, but unfortunately he too was to die at an early age (15 months).
Not much later, we decided to mate "Trampas" and to buy a house with a big plot
in order to start our own kennel, with the prefix "Dominio de los Penates"."Penates" and/or "Lares" was the name the ancient Romans gave to
the domestic gods, those who protected, watched for and cared for every family.
And if we have manage to come this far it is simply because our families
have helped us put up the kennel; they are the ones who come
and watch for our dogs when we are abroad for a Show; it is also thanks
to the help and good knowledge of our Veterinarian, Dr Jose L. Pazos
and his "superteam", who are always watchful over our dogs.
Last but not least it is also thanks to the good advice of many veteran breeders,
such as Isabel and Yves Coiffard (La Seigneurie des Chartrons), Gema and Tomas
(Del Matachin), Paqui and Jesus (El Siscar), Juan (de Bariloche), Jesus (Presa Real),
Armango (Las Brujas) and Eduardo (Mort Azteque), our friends from Mexico,
plus many other dear friends such as Juan José Baione and his family and Gaby,
all from Argentina, and many others…
TO ALL OF THEM WE SAY THANKS FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS. |
